London Independent Photography is a community of some 300 photographers. Not for profit but for each other.

We come from a wide range of backgrounds but each of us share the visual curiosity of looking and seeing.

We are a community for the visually curious.

Since its foundation in 1987, LIP has offered the opportunity to informally show and discuss your work and the wider photographic world at various satellite groups which meet in-person around London or online. Events are held throughout the year, including talks and workshops. Many satellite groups hold an annual exhibition and all members are invited to enter our judged and curated Annual Exhibition in London. fLIP magazine is published three times a year and distributed to members as part of their membership fee.

We have some 300 members with all degrees of expertise – from beginners just starting to realise the excitement of making images with a camera to very experienced amateurs and professionals. We believe that every member has the potential to contribute to our community and the opportunity to take something away in return.

Members receive fLIP Magazine three times a year. fLIP aims to (primarily) showcase members’ work and to engage readers in a wider photographic dialogue.

We hold an Annual Exhibition in London to which all members are invited to submit work for consideration by independent selectors who are well known in the photographic field.

As a member you will have the opportunity to participate in our Satellite Groups. These are independently organised, informal gatherings of LIP members in different areas of London – in galleries, workspaces, pubs or occasionally in someone’s home – where members show each other their work, engage in constructive dialogue, perhaps plan a local group exhibition or outing and generally chat about all things photographic.
